From Graduate to Professional: How One Internship Created Confidence, Skills and Career Progression
At Klir Online, we believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t.
As a purpose-led social business, our mission goes beyond helping organisations grow online. We create pathways for students, graduates, volunteers and emerging professionals to gain real-world experience, develop confidence and improve their employability.
In 2025, we welcomed Beatrice Girelli, a Biomedical Science graduate from Nottingham Trent University, as part of an eight-week internship programme.
What started as a placement opportunity became a powerful example of how practical experience, mentoring and responsibility can transform confidence and create meaningful career outcomes.
The Challenge
Like many graduates, Beatrice had strong academic credentials but limited industry experience.
Breaking into professional roles can be difficult without practical experience, confidence and opportunities to demonstrate skills in a real working environment.
Klir Online recognised her potential and created a structured internship that would allow her to apply her knowledge, develop new skills and contribute meaningfully to the organisation.
Building Confidence Through Responsibility
From day one, Beatrice was treated as a valued member of the team rather than an observer.
Working as a Sustainability Marketing Officer and Biomedical Sustainability Researcher, she was given ownership of projects and trusted to contribute to strategic discussions, content creation and reporting.
Her responsibilities included:
• Delivering sustainability-focused marketing campaigns
• Supporting content creation and scheduling across platforms
• Researching sustainability trends and products, including GIP Skins sustainability initiatives
• Monitoring social media performance and reporting insights
• Supporting team onboarding and knowledge sharing
• Developing digital marketing and employability skills
As her confidence grew, so did her responsibilities.
One of her biggest milestones came when she successfully delivered training to another member of the Klir Online team, demonstrating leadership, communication skills and professional growth.
For a graduate entering the workplace, this represented a significant achievement.
Creating Measurable Impact
The internship created benefits not only for Beatrice but also for Klir Online.
Through her work, support and contribution to content planning and reporting, Beatrice helped strengthen our social media presence and digital engagement.
During her placement, Klir Online recorded significant growth across key social media channels, increasing visibility, engagement and audience reach.
Her analytical mindset, attention to detail and willingness to learn helped strengthen our reporting processes and improve how we measured social media performance.
The experience demonstrated the value graduates can bring when organisations invest time in developing their potential.
Beyond Skills: Developing Future Leaders
The greatest outcome was not simply improved social media metrics.
It was confidence.
Over eight weeks, Beatrice developed:
• Professional confidence
• Leadership and presentation skills
• Strategic thinking
• Digital marketing knowledge
• Communication and collaboration skills
• Workplace experience and employability skills
The internship gave her a safe space to learn, make decisions, ask questions and develop professionally.
By the end of the programme, she had evolved from intern to trusted team member.
The Outcome
Following the internship, Beatrice successfully secured a new professional opportunity, taking the next step in her career journey.
Her success demonstrates the power of practical experience, mentoring and meaningful workplace opportunities.
For Klir Online, this is exactly what impact looks like.
Not simply providing work experience.
But helping people move into employment, build confidence and realise their potential.
Why This Matters
Stories like Beatrice’s are one of the reasons Klir Online was recognised and nominated for multiple awards celebrating employability, entrepreneurship and community impact.
Our work is not solely focused on marketing.
It is focused on creating opportunities.
By combining digital skills, mentoring and real-world experience, we help individuals gain confidence, strengthen employability and access opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach.
