Turning Challenges Into Change: Why Representation in Entrepreneurship Matters
In March 2025, Klir Online founder Danniebelle Gunter joined researchers, entrepreneurs and changemakers at Nottingham Business School for an important discussion exploring the experiences of Black women in entrepreneurship.
Led by Dr Oyedele Martins Ogundana and supported by Nottingham Trent University, the University of Leicester and The British Academy, the study created space for honest conversations about the realities behind building a business as a Black woman in the UK.
The session explored everything from funding and visibility to confidence, representation and the long-term impact of the pandemic on entrepreneurs and small business owners. While the challenges discussed were significant, the overwhelming theme of the day was resilience.
For Danniebelle, the conversation was a powerful reminder that many of the barriers Black women face in business are often invisible to those outside of the experience. Yet despite these challenges, women continue to launch businesses, create jobs, support communities and drive innovation.
The event also reinforced the importance of visibility, opportunity and representation — values that sit at the heart of Klir Online.
Founded in 2022, Klir Online is a purpose-led social business that helps SMEs, charities and CICs improve their visibility online through social media marketing, content creation and digital support. Beyond client work, the organisation creates opportunities for volunteers, students, freelancers and emerging creatives to gain hands-on experience, build confidence and develop valuable digital skills.
The discussion highlighted something Klir Online sees every day: there are talented people, brilliant ideas and impactful organisations in every community, but many struggle to be seen, heard or supported.
Through partnerships, training and digital marketing support, Klir Online is committed to helping change that.
More Than Marketing
For Klir Online, success isn’t measured solely by likes, followers or website traffic.
Success is helping a CIC reach more people in its community.
Success is helping a volunteer gain experience that leads to employment.
Success is helping a founder feel confident enough to share their story.
Success is creating opportunities where opportunities may not have existed before.
Creating Impact Through Partnership
Collaboration plays a key role in this mission. Through relationships with organisations such as the University of Nottingham Ingenuity Lab, Nottingham Trent University, East Midlands Chamber, B-Global, Allia and the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Klir Online continues to champion inclusive growth, digital confidence and community impact across the East Midlands.
Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals
This work contributes towards:
• SDG 4 – Quality Education
• SDG 5 – Gender Equality
• SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth
• SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
• SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
As conversations around entrepreneurship, representation and opportunity continue, Klir Online remains committed to helping purpose-led organisations become more visible, create greater impact and build stronger communities.
Because when more voices are heard, everyone benefits.
